Hikes & Workshops
In addition to our seasonal Morning Guided Hikes, we offer Night Hikes for more adventurous adults. Come for an evening stroll and we’ll look, listen and watch night fall on the Bluebird Trail. Evening provides a unique opportunity to view animals that call the Cross Timbers home. Bring water and a flashlight and wear weather-appropriate clothing. Hikes will leave on-time. Night Hikes are generally scheduled in the fall and spring. For a personalized Night Hike for your friends or family, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 817.491.6333.
Charlie Shiner, Master Gardener, Master Composter and “The Compost King of Tarrant County” founded the composting program and workshops at Bob Jones Nature Center. Mr. Shiner passed away on November 19, 2016 and left a gap not only in our composting program but in our hearts. He is greatly missed and can never be replaced; however, we want to honor his legacy and continue the composting program he worked so diligently and passionately on.
We hosted an Interactive Composting Workday over Spring Break 2017 and worked on Charlie’s Composting Corner with the help of local Scouts and volunteers. However, there’s still a lot to do before we can resume our Composting Workshops and we’ll need your continued support to move forward.
Composting makes a fantastic group project ideal for home school groups, Scout troops, high school clubs and service organizations. Families and individuals are also encouraged to participate. Youth ages 8-13 must be accompanied by a parent, teacher, Scout leader or other guardian. Please email email@example.com or call 817.491.6333 if you are interested helping us restart our Composting Workshops.
